Speaker of the House Candidate: Shannon Schweitzer, MBA, CEBT

Candidate Bio

Shannon Schweitzer, MBA, CEBT, is the Executive Director for Lions Eye Bank of West Central Ohio. She was previously the Technical Director and has over 20 years of experience in Eye Banking. Shannon has a BS in Biology and a master’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in Healthcare Administration. Shannon was promoted to the Executive Director Role in March 2016. Now 8 years into that role, Shannon continues to strive for growth and development of the organization and ways to make the eye bank’s impact on the community and humanity greater. She was a previous board member for the State of Ohio’s Second Chance Trust Fund, is the Secretary for Donate Life Ohio, and a Medical Advisory Board Member for Lifeline of Ohio. Shannon has taken on roles in several committees for the EBAA over the years and served as Speaker of the House for the last 2 years. In this role, Shannon enjoys serving the members and the association to help propel the profession forward. Shannon is a collaborator and a huge proponent of the notion that together, we are better.

Candidate Statement

We are at a pivotal time in our profession. Reflecting on the last two years of my role as Speaker of the House, I realize how important it is to find ways that bring people together. To unite us on the concepts that have been the cornerstones of eye banking for decades, and also to address the changes that are occurring all around us. We can’t turn our heads to change or bury our heads in the sand. It takes strength to stand up and make a difference. We, as an association must be that strength – together, for the future of our profession.

My natural ability to identify and understand different points of view allow me to be a liaison in situations and I have demonstrated this skill in the last two years. As the profession embarks on the unknown of the future, it will be more crucial than ever for the Speaker of the House to be a resource for our members. I strive to continue this in the role of Speaker of the House and build upon the strategic direction that will allow the association and the profession to move forward in a positive direction.
