Heather Harris

April 23, 2020

Photo of Heather Harris

My name is Heather.

I am 39 years old and a mom to three boys (ages 17,13,10). I was diagnosed with an eye disease when I was 30 that would ultimately lead to blindness one day. Last September, it was clear that it was time to proceed with my first corneal transplant.

As my body began to accept my donor’s cornea, I felt like I was watching a miracle occur from the inside out. Prior to my transplant I didn’t realize my children had freckles – now I could see them and I couldn’t stop staring! Before I just saw grass, but now I could see actual grass blades! And trees –  the leaves are so much more vibrant now! I felt like I was seeing things for the first time again. I will forever be grateful to my donor!
