EBAA in the News: Advocates Expect the FDA to Ease Restrictions on Cornea Donation by Gay and Bisexual Men

June 1, 2023

On Friday, May 26, Medscape published the article, “Advocates Expect the FDA to Ease Restrictions on Cornea Donation by Gay and Bisexual Men.” The article notes EBAA’s longtime support for reducing or eliminating FDA’s 5-year exclusionary period for cornea donation for men who have sex with men.

EBAA past Chair Dr. David Glasser and EBAA Director of Regulations and Standards, Jennifer DeMatteo, were both interviewed for the article, noting that revising the FDA policy would be a “significant inclusionary step forward” – much like the recent decision to end restrictions on blood donation from gay and bisexual men.
