Eye Donation Month: Everyday Heroes
The theme of 2025 Eye Donation Month is: Everyday Heroes. It celebrates the unique fact that nearly anyone can be a cornea donor – and a hero by giving the gift of sight. It also honors all the “everyday” superheroes who restore sight: donors and their families, eye bankers, corneal surgeons, champions of eye donation, and more.
Celebrating Everyday Heroes Challenge
For 2025, we’ve reimagined our annual photo contest, and are running the “Celebrating Everyday Heroes Challenge.”
- Select a photo of someone you consider an “Everyday Hero” – include a brief explanation of your choice. (Tip: Use a photo that illustrates your hero’s special quality. Are they an athlete in the Special Olympics? Send an image of them competing, or receiving their medal.)
- Submit it by Tuesday, September 16th, in one of the following categories: Family & Loved Ones, Community Members, and Athletes / Hobbyists.
- An honoree will be selected from each category and will have their photo converted into a superhero comic book cover by comic book artist and bilateral cornea recipient Phillip Hester. Honorees will be able to keep the artwork, which will also be used as social media graphics during Eye Donation Month.
