Candidate Statement

The Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA) is at the center of what cornea surgeons do. Our mission to restore vision to patients with corneal blindness is one that would not be possible without the EBAA. This starts with the gifts offered by donors and families. But the gift is not enough without the diligence and care of eye banks across our organization, and the many members of the EBAA who volunteer their time on various committees to provide data, to continuously modernize our medical standards, and to accredit our members. What more relevant activity to my professional goals could I be involved in than to serve in various capacities in this organization? Its leaders have throughout its lifespan provided the highest standards and expectations for corneal surgeons globally and have been mentors and inspirations to me. Our field is now rapidly changing due to emerging cellular, pharmacological and prosthetic technologies that promise to provide more tools in the global fight against corneal blindness. I believe the EBAA along with its members is positioned to not only participate but to pilot this evolving field, and I would be honored to participate in this leadership.
