At-Large Director Candidate: Edwin Roberts, MPA, CEBT

Candidate Bio

Edwin Roberts, MPA, CEBT is a mission-driven nonprofit executive with more than 25 years of experience advancing eye donation, regulatory compliance, and public-health impact. He serves as Executive Director at The Eye-Bank for Sight Restoration in New York City, where he leads initiatives in quality assurance, donor screening, inspection readiness, and organizational preparedness. His work has modernized enterprise quality systems, strengthened FDA and state compliance, and improved operational performance to expand donor tissue availability.

Mr. Roberts holds national leadership roles with EBAA, including service on its Medical Advisory Board, Accreditation Board, and Policy and Position Review Subcommittee. He has contributed to national standards and guidance addressing donor eligibility, adverse reaction reporting, and emerging infectious risks.

He also serves in board roles with Donate Life New York State and NYC Health & Hospitals Woodhull Auxiliary. Earlier in his career, he served 19 years as a NYC paramedic, bringing frontline experience in high-acuity care and emergency management. He holds a Master of Public Administration.

Candidate Statement

I am seeking election as an At-Large Director to support the EBAA Board of Directors with experienced, mission-driven leadership rooted in quality, compliance, and operational insight. With more than 25 years in eye donation and long-standing service across EBAA committees, I understand the changing landscape of eye banking today, including evolving regulatory expectations, emerging infectious risks, workforce pressures, and increasing demands on quality systems.

My professional work has centered on building durable quality programs, strengthening inspection readiness, and translating medical and regulatory guidance into consistent, practical application at the eye bank level. Through service on the Medical Advisory Board, Accreditation Board, and Policy and Position Review Subcommittee, I have contributed to standards and guidance that balance scientific rigor with operational feasibility and public trust.

In addition to my EBAA service, I hold board and officer roles with Donate Life New York State and NYC Health and Hospitals Woodhull Auxiliary, where I also serve as Chair of the Bylaws Committee.
