Candidate Statement
Having served as an eye banker since before the turn of the century, I’ve been an active part of several revolutions and evolutions during my tenure, including introduction of FDA regulation, DSAEK and DMEK upstart in the U.S., the Cornea Collaborative, introduction of Donor Designation, FDA vs. sepsis and dementia, FDA vs. vCJD, FDA vs. sepsis (round 2) and tuberculosis, HTLV test kit crisis, supply crises, pandemic, melanoma transmission, emerging disease risk assessment, surgical suitability assessment standardization, FDA/EBAA harmonization, and many more events, efforts, and initiatives. My personal platform for Board service is to apply crisis management, creative thinking, and bold strategies to tackle impending challenges and threats, as well as exciting new prospects, to U.S. eye banking that include introduction of cell therapy, accelerating rate of mergers and acquisitions, an ever-expanding array of surgical techniques and eye banking products (proprietary and open-source).
