National Physicians Week is March 25-31, and during this time of COVID-19 pandemic it is especially important to acknowledge the doctors providing for our health and their commitment to our care.
At EBAA, we specifically celebrate the ophthalmologists performing corneal transplants that make our mission to #RestoreSight worldwide possible. We’re grateful for their commitment to eye banking and for their championing the high-quality tissue provided by EBAA-member eye banks.
Our Paton Society was formed in 1985 to honor Dr. R. Townley Paton, the founder of the first eye bank in the United States (1944) and to provide a link between EBAA and corneal surgeons. We thank our more than 200 Paton Society members for their ongoing support and participation with the association.
Currently, we have four physicians serving on the EBAA Board of Directors, including our current Chair, Dr. Woodford Van Meter. We appreciate their leadership within EBAA, and their willingness to dedicate their valuable time and efforts volunteering for our board.
Recently, we hosted the 2020 Physician Leadership Program in San Antonio, TX. This seminar provided corneal surgeons early in their careers with leadership education and tools to accelerate their personal and professional growth, adding to their skill sets. We’d like to congratulate the “Class of 2020,” and wish them the best as they continue to give the #GiftOfSight.
In appreciation of all physicians and their work, we thank you this week and always!
