Candidate Bio
Mohammad H. Dastjerdi, MD, is an ophthalmologist specializing in cornea, external and ocular surface disease, complex cataract surgery, and ocular trauma. He is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Ophthalmology & Visual Science, Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, where his expertise has established him as a highly respected ophthalmologist in the field of Cornea and External Disease.
Dr. Dastjerdi obtained his medical degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences and completed his Ophthalmology Residency at the Kansas University Medical Center. His commitment to excellence led him to pursue a clinical fellowship in Cornea and External Disease at the Kellogg Eye Center, University of Michigan. Additionally, he undertook a research fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and Schepens Eye Research Institute, Harvard Medical School, where his active involvement in diverse research projects focused on critical areas such as dry eye disease, corneal neovascularization, and transplantation. This invaluable experience allowed him to seamlessly bridge clinical insights with cutting-edge research initiatives.
Candidate Statement
I am eager to bring my skills and experiences to the At-Large Director position, with a strong foundation in Cornea and External Disease. My deep understanding of eye banking, combined with my ability to think creatively, allows me to approach challenges and opportunities with innovative solutions. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with diverse stakeholders within and outside the eye banking field, enhancing my ability to collaborate effectively with individuals at all levels. I believe that the key to addressing the profession’s challenges lies in collaboration, creativity, and a shared vision for progress.
As an At-Large Director, I am committed to advancing the association’s mission by driving strategic initiatives, fostering innovation, and advocating for the ongoing development of the profession. I look forward to contributing to a diverse and dynamic board that values inclusivity and forward-thinking approaches to shaping the future of eye banking and corneal transplantation.
