I have served the eye banking community for over 20 years. Before relocating to Utah, I spent four years as Executive Director for the Lions Eye Bank of Texas at Baylor College of Medicine and currently serve in the same capacity at the Utah Lions Eye Bank – John A. Moran Eye Center. I have played an active role in the Eye Bank Association of America serving as co-chair of the Accreditation Board, a member of the Medical Review Subcommittee, and Medical Advisory Board. I earned my undergraduate degree in Biology and Psychology from Houston Baptist University and MBA from the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah.
Our profession has changed quite drastically since I began my career in eye banking. From the seemingly never-ending modifications in regulation, to the current competitive landscape, I have witnessed many changes that have forced eye bank leaders and their respective organizations to adapt. Recalling one of the most frequently cited quotes in change management: “The only thing that is constant is change”. This is a reality I understand and one for which we as leaders face each day. The ability for eye bank organizations to effectively address challenges presented in our ever-changing profession is vital to the framework of continued progress and growth. I believe collaboration is also crucial for the same and, despite observations the collaborative “spirit” has somewhat diminished among EBAA members as a result of the current climate in our profession, perhaps now it is more critical than ever this spirit be rekindled. It would be an honor to represent our membership in order to further advance efforts of the Association and I thank you for considering me for this opportunity to serve.
