Alan Blake is the President and CEO of the Alabama Eye Bank. Alan has worked at the eye bank for over 15 years, beginning with his tenure as a transplant coordinator. Alan’s leadership extends beyond the eye bank, sitting on the Accreditation Board and the Board of Directors of the Eye Bank Association of America. His commitment to eye banking is seen in his membership and service in professional societies, including the European Eye Bank Association, the American Association of Tissue Banks, the Christian Ophthalmology Society, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has made a lasting and global impact on vision, helping to create the Global Sight Network – a long term preservation method and network system for maximizing the use for cornea donation. This has led to the distribution of over 20,000 corneas for vision-saving surgeries. Alan received his CEBT in 2005 and CTBS in 2011.
As eye banks evolve to deal with the changing environment, the Eye Bank Association of America will also have change to continue to meet the needs of its members. I feel that these changes can be done in a way that continues to provide the best service to our donor families, recipients and surgeons without compromising the altruism and the local / community eye bank. This is a critical time for the Association and for eye banks and I feel I can help EBAA further the work we started the past year to ensure EBAA continues to evolve and serve the eye banks to be able to better serve their communities.
