Speaker of the House Candidate: Shannon Schweitzer

Shannon Schweitzer, CEBT

Lions Eye Bank of West Central Ohio

Candidate Bio

Shannon Schweitzer, CEBT, is the Executive Director for Lions Eye Bank of West Central Ohio. She was previously the Technical Director and has 20 years of experience in Eye Banking. Shannon graduated with honors from The University of Findlay in 2002, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree. Shortly after graduation she found a career at Lions Eye Bank of West Central Ohio. Shannon obtained her CEBT through the EBAA in 2004. Shannon continued to grow her career and passion for eye banking over the years. In 2009, Shannon graduated from The University of Findlay with a master’s degree in Business Administration with emphasis in Healthcare Administration. In early 2012, Shannon became the Technical Director. Shannon was promoted to the Executive Director Role in March 2016. Now 6 years into that role, Shannon continues to strive for growth and development of the organization and ways to make the eye bank’s impact on the community and humanity greater. Shannon has taken on roles in several committees for the EBAA over the years, was a board member for the State of Ohio’s Second Chance Trust Fund, is the Secretary for Donate Life Ohio, and a Medical Advisory Board Member for Lifeline of Ohio.

Candidate Statement

Over the years as I have grown professionally in eye banking and leadership, I have determined that one of my greatest strengths is the ability to bring people together; to connect people through ideas and concepts that unite and become mutually beneficial. My ability to listen, identify, and understand different points of view have allowed me to naturally be a liaison in different professional situations. As the EBAA and its members continue to transcend through industry changes, this ability will be needed for the Board of Directors to have a solid comprehension of the landscape and our future. The Speaker of the House needs to be approachable, intellectual, have historical knowledge, and be open to talk about change. All of these qualities are ones that I value and seek to uphold in running for the Speaker of the House position.

An African proverb reads, “If you want to go fast, go alone, if you want to go far, go together.” As a group of professionals, we will make better strides in our goal to eliminate corneal blindness by working together and igniting collaboration over competition.

Thank you for your consideration in my run for Speaker of the House.
