Chair-Elect Candidate: Jim Quirk

Jim Quirk, CEBT

Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley

Candidate Bio

Jim Quirk, CEBT, began his eye banking career as a part-time recovery technician with the Medical Eye Bank of Delaware while attending college. In his 30+ year career, Jim has held almost every position in eye banking which affords him the unique ability to see situations from multiple perspectives and without bias. Jim has served as President and Chief Executive Officer for Lions Eye Bank of Delaware Valley since 2012.

Jim has extensive community involvement in support of donation and transplantation. He has served the Association on key boards and committees, most notably Co-Chairing the Accreditation Board for two terms, Chairing the Governance Review Committee, and serving as a member of the Board of Directors and Medical Advisory Board. He was appointed by the Governor of Delaware to serve as Chairman on the state Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Board and has served as a member of the Pennsylvania Organ Donation Advisory Committee to the Governor.  As a member of New Jersey’s Coalition on Donation, he worked closely on initiatives with Coalition members which included representatives from eye banks, tissue banks, OPOs, government and the State’s hospital association.

Prior to being an eye banker, Jim served in the United States Navy and Naval Reserve. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology and Chemistry from Neumann University in Pennsylvania.  When he’s not eye banking, you can find him at the helm of “Dog Boy” chasing various pelagics off the North Carolina coast.

Candidate Statement

During my more than 30 years of eye banking experience, I’ve had the good fortune to learn from some of the greats in our profession, and I cherish my interactions with recipients and donor families that we are privileged to serve. My career has been dedicated to the eye bank’s mission and I am passionate about securing the future of the EBAA. I have reached a point in my life where I can give back in a meaningful way and I firmly believe that I possess the skill, experience, passion, and most of all desire to represent the members of the EBAA as Chair-elect. Combining my versatile skill sets and business acumen will allow me to successfully navigate the Association’s rapidly evolving business models and challenges. The strength of the EBAA is in its members and their willingness to collaborate for the common good thereby establishing the EBAA as the gold standard for eye banking.  Your vote for me will ensure that we will build on the foundation that has made us so successful and create a bright future for the next generation of eye bankers where collaboration is the norm, and everybody benefits!
